Feeling down? |
Every person alive experiences troubled
moments from time to time. The counselors at JCCHS and EJCHS want to help
students through those times. We want to do that because we care. That's
why we became counselors.
Many times, all a student needs
is for someone to listen to them. We'll do that. Or, sometimes a student
needs to organize thoughts and be presented with alternatives. We'll help
with that, too. Sometimes, a student needs to resolve a conflict with
another student. We'll do that, often with the aid of our conflict resolution
team of peer mediators. These are students who've been trained to help
other students resolve conflict. |
| If the counselors come to believe
a student needs long term help, we'll provide referrals to psychologists,
psychiatrists, hospitals, and other professionals who practice clinical
counseling. While our counselors have all been trained in counseling and
psychology programs, we are not in a position to conduct long term therapy.
However, we know therapists who have excellent reputations and will tell
students and parents about them. Students
and parents should know that what they tell the counselors is confidential.
That is to say, it is secret and the counselors will not tell anyone else
without the students' or parents' permission. The exception to that is
if the students or parents say something that indicates they intend to
harm themselves or others. If that happens, the counselors must share
that information with proper authorities.
Students and parents may choose which counselor
they want to seek help from. If there is no preference, the first available
counselor will provide the help.
Most of the information on this website involves
providing information and links to information about academic, career
planning, and other miscellaneous issues. It is difficult to provide information
regarding personal help. As we build this site, we will try to find links
to information we believe will be helpful for personal concerns. However,
we want to be very careful in choosing those links, so that will come
later.
The bottom line is the JCCHS and EJCHScounselors
want to help students work through stormy and troubled times. Please feel
free and feel welcomed to ask us for that help. |
